Disability Employment Services
In a tight and competitive labour market, it makes good business sense to draw upon a currently largely untapped resource - people with disability have the skills, talent, capacity and desire to work.
Disproving myths and misconceptions, Australian and International studies and the experience of many satisfied employers, both large and small, have shown that employees with disability are:
- More reliable - The retention rate is higher and employees with disability take fewer days off, including less sick leave and absenteeism, than other workers.
- Just as Productive - With the right job matching / design and support, workers with disability perform as well as other employees.
- More affordable - Not only are there lower recruitment and workers' compenation claim costs than those associated with other workers, there is also a wide range of free assistance and support available if required.
- Good for business - Employing people with disability builds morale, loyalty and goodwill among staff, customers and the community by positively reflecting diversity. Almost one in five Australians have a disability.
Disability Employment Services (DES) provide free specialist help to employers and assist people with disability, injury or a health condition to find and maintain sustainable employment.
Services include:
- Professional recruitment advice and job matching, including employer advice on job design;
- On-the-job or off-site support to ensure new employees settle into their job successfully;
- Ongoing support for employers and employees for as long as it’s required to maintain employment; and
- Training information and disability awareness activities for employers and staff.
