Autism from the Outside In
WA Individualised Services and Developmental Disability WA are pleased to offer this two day workshop which explores:
- How understanding a diagnosis of Autism helps with understanding a person
- How understanding Autism impacts on thinking, perception, processing, interests, relationships & families.
- What insightful, tailored support looks like and that makes sense to people living with autism, services and staff.
- Why understanding yourself and your thought processes is vital to understanding someone else.
This workshop was influenced and designed by people living with Autism Spectrum Conditions, their families and people who provide support every day. It starts and ends with connecting with the impact of living with the condition.
It is so much more than theory. Learning is focussed on understanding yourself and using that understanding to get inside the condition. It means feeling the impact of living with a diagnosis and applying that learning to dramatically improve people’s lives. This session is packed with real life examples, experiential learning opportunities and a solid understanding of theory and research.
If you want to make a real difference to shaping support for people that services may find challenging to support, then this is for you.
About the presenter:
Judith has a 28 year track record of working in human services. From a start as a support worker Judith received a firm grounding in directly supporting people with autism and their families. It fundamentally shaped her approach, values, reputation and working life.
As a Commissioner and Chief Executive of two third sector organisations her mission to develop and deliver person centered support has come to define her. She has a reputation for shaping support in ways that make real sense to people with autism and her unique and challenging insight has been used by many provider organisations to significantly adapt their approach and understanding. She wrote "Better Services for People with Autistic Spectrum Conditions" for DH in 1996 - the first Government sponsored paper in the UK about autism and paved the way for national strategy.
Confident of working well with people who work in services, families and people with the condition Judith frequently consults to organisations facing major challenges with people with autism and makes a transformational difference. Training evaluations rated her as "outstanding" and the most frequent comment from participants is "why did no-one ever tell me this before".
