This session will ensure you increase placement outcomes.  It will cover job readiness, client marketing and engaging with potential employers.

Australia is a big place with big job challenges.  We rely so much on the mining, oil and gas sectors providing work opportunities that when there is a downturn and jobs start disappearing we can become overwhelmed with job seekers.  However the paradox of the job market is that when the economy heads downwards it is actually easier to find people work.  This may sound bizarre, but by utilising the right placement techniques and remaining confident and focussed she has proven it is easy to place even the most challenging clients in the most challenging job markets.

This presentation shares a journey of both a consumer and a carer detailing from their own ‘lived experience’ how they became involved in the journey, what were challenges for them and others, what strengths they used to get through, how they moved forward from a context of illness to recovery.  Both will highlight the key strategies that they learned, the roles they played and how they move forward.

A practical look at; the factors and support strategies that can make or break a job placement.  Including; Identifying and overcoming barriers to safety, quality, productivity and social acceptance in the workplace.

Margaret will address building motivation for change, interviewing, building self-esteem and confidence and preparing for and managing setbacks

 

4.15-4.45pm                       The NDRC in 2013 - Working together to                                               generate demand

Gareth Wyatt, National Disability Recruitment Co-Ordinator

Meeting employer and business needs is a critical way to ensure successful placements for DES candidates. The NDRC will share its perspectives of what works and challenge attendees to take an employer led approach to their work.
