Introduction to Social Media
A session with Dr. Lisa Cluett, Project Leader and Honorary Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia with responsibility for building social media community amongst targeted groups, and for training and development in emerging technologies.
“Social media” refers to different types of online communications used for information sharing, discussions and as a marketing tool; well-known examples include Facebook and Twitter.
This session will introduce not-for-profit disability services to the principles and practicalities of social media and help you make sensible and sustainable decisions about how you might use it.
The session will cover:
- Exploring the goals that disability service organisations might have in using social media (including looking at some relevant examples);
- Discussing the tools and platforms available;
- Identifying the practical considerations of building and audience and generating content;
- Looking at plans and procedures for if something goes wrong on a social media account;
- Finding ways to evaluate social media communities and determine whether goals are being met.
Who should attend?
This workshop is suitable for those with an interest in social media who would like to learn more, this might include those working in management, administrators and those with responsibility for customer relations or marketing.
