Certificate III and Certificate IV in Disability Update
As part of a desire from the National Skills Standards Council to reduce duplication in existing VET qualifications, the various Skills Councils have been asked to streamline current qualifications.
The disability qualifications come under the control of the Community Services and Health Skills Council.
The Council has proposed changes to the Certificates III and IV in Disability as part of this streamlining process.
At Certificate III level in particular significant changes have been proposed. The proposal is that the current Certificate III in Disability is replaced by a Certificate III in Individual Support Work. This will be a qualification with generic core units with the opportunity to choose elective units in either disability, aged care or Home Community Care.
There is an ongoing consultation process to which NDS WA, Registered Training Organisations in WA and some sector organisations have already provided feedback.
This event will update the sector on the progress of this consultation and likely changes to disability qualifications.
