Sector Training Activities

Supporting Inclusion in the Workplace

This workshop aims to explore the nuances of supporting a person to maintain employment, and to thrive in their workplace. We will not be focussing on the skills people need to perform their work, but the skills people need to be successful in the workplace.  Investing in positive relationships with others is likely to be just as, or more valuable to individuals as their ability to perform work duties.

It isn’t about how bright you are or what skills you have, as much as it is about the working relationships you have been able to build with those around you.” – Karl Albrecht author of Social Intelligence: The New Science of Success

Who should attend

People working as Employment and Recruitment Consultants, JSAs and others who support people with disabilities to gain and maintain employment.

Topics covered

  • Understanding the theory behind inclusion.  Exploring key concepts that will act as underpinning knowledge in this session, and in your work in the future.
  • Creating a win-win situation. Understanding the benefits for individuals, workplaces and society, and incorporating an assets based approach in the work you do with workplaces. We will examine our knowledge of social structures, norms and mores, and explore our role in ensuring inclusion is a win-win for the workplace, and the individual
  • The maze of motivation. Considering the myriad of variables that contribute to the motivation of an individual, and then identifying strategies to foster and maintain motivation.
  • Enhancing a sense of social responsibility.  Working isn’t a choice, it’s a societal expectation. This section delves into the strategies used to support and enhance the way an individual sees themselves and their value to society, and is then able to make genuine contributions.
  • Identifying interests and transferrable skills. Using creative thinking tools and lateral approached, we’ll find opportunities to showcase someone’s talents for the benefit of the workplace.
