NDS Employment Forum 2012
More than just a job - Rethinking employment support for people with disability
The provision of employment support to people with disability is facing significant change. Large policy developments in relation to the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the continuing push for welfare-to-work reform will have pronounced implications for disability employment support. Service providers also operate in an increasingly competitive environment, which demands astute business and management skills.
National Disability Services is hosting a two-day conference in Perth on 6-7 September to equip delegates with knowledge and strategies that ensure a continued focus on the employment of people with disability as well as an ability to meet the challenges ahead.
In different ways, Disability Employment Services and Australian Disability Enterprises face some of the same questions. What is an appropriate performance framework? How should the quality of employment be defined and measured? What does a 'choice and control' approach to service delivery mean in the context of employment? How can service providers best build and sustain the relationships with businesses that support the employment of people with disability? How are services best delivered in diverse locations?
The Government has received a report recommending a Vision for Supported Employment. What changes would the implementation of that Vision entail? And what should be the Vision for Disability Employment Services?
