Person Centred Support: What will it mean for Australian Disability Enterprises?
Who is this workshop for: If an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) is to adopt more person centred support, then it is crucial that those in decision making roles understand what person centred approaches are, before any service improvement strategies are utilised.
This workshop will form a foundation for future work. People with disabilities and family members are also welcome to attend.
In FACHSIA's recently released 'Inclusive employment 2012 - 2022', there is a clear policy direction towards employment supports that are linked to people's needs, chosen by the person with a disability and delivered in an environment of their choosing. This workshop is an opportunity for those in middle and senior management roles to understand seven key elements that make up person centred approaches.
In the first instance, the workshop will ask the question: person centred for what? Person Centred planning and thinking has become popularised in recent years and has the potential to create better lives, however the level of understanding is often quite mixed and converting the ideas from ideas and plans to practice is challenging. The workshop will not be about planning or planning tools, but will invite critical thinking and discussion. A brief 'self assessment' will be possible during the day.
