Industrial Relations in an NDIS Setting
Individualised funding packages are not a new concept, but NDIS will see a dramatic increase in individualised funding which has the potential to drive major change in employment practices in the disability services sector. NDIS has huge potential to transform lives for the better, but there is a risk that this will be undermined if industrial relations constraints lead to unsustainable employment practices.
This session will identify the key industrial relations challenges facing providers under NDIS and explore practical approaches to managing those challenges within the constraints of the current IR system.
The session will explore
- HR objectives and workforce strategy
- The industrial relations environment, including consideration of WA specific aspects
- Managing client preferences: Flexible working hours and how to work within award provisions
- Casual vs permanent employment and other types of contracts
- Modern award review
- Enterprise bargaining options
The session will be informed by lessons from the trial sites, as well as Jobs Australia’s daily work with disability services employers across Australia.
Jobs Australia provides IR and HRM advice, support and representation for its members who are employers across the not for profit community services sector. Jobs Australia also works closely with NDS on sector-wide issues such as the modern award review and workforce strategy.
