New Governance Tool for the Disability Sector
NDS WA recently launched “Governance Manager” a web based self assessment tool to help understand and improve governance across the disability sector.
The tool allows organisations and their boards to identify their current and desired maturity in a broad range of governance elements such as; boards and committees, financial management, ethics and integrity, social capital, people management, risk management and communications. The tool also provides a reporting mechanism and allows users to identify “agreed actions” to meet desired levels of maturity.
In 2011 with funding provided by the Disability Services Commission the tool was developed. A panel of six sector agencies successfully trialled the final system and provided positive feedback regarding its relevance for CEOs and Boards of Management.
If required the tool can also provide a comparison of the organisation’s level of maturity with similar sized organisations using the tool. How much of the tool’s full capabilities used is the choice of each individual organisation.
