Mental Health & Intellectual Disability
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to contribute to the recovery of people affected by a mental illness in a range of community services work contexts.
The training focuses on the overview of mental health issues with discussions on :
- Types of mental illnesses
- Impact of mental illness on individuals, their families/carers and their social networks
- Supports that are available to individuals that can contribute to the recovery from the illness
- Issues faced by individuals with intellectual disability and mental illness
- The strategies for support workers to assist individuals in the process of recovery from the mental illness.
