Mental Health & Intellectual Disability

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to contribute to the recovery of people affected by a mental illness in a range of community services work contexts.

The training focuses on the overview of mental health issues with discussions on :

  • Types  of mental illnesses
  • Impact of mental illness on individuals, their families/carers and their social networks
  • Supports that are available to individuals that can contribute to the recovery from the illness
  • Issues faced by individuals with intellectual disability and mental illness
  • The strategies for support workers to assist individuals in the process of recovery from the mental illness.
