ASID WA Sundowner - People with an Intellectual Disability and Access to the Internet
Synopsis: The panel will address the topic ‘The rights of people with an intellectual disability to access the internet’. Discussions will focus on the use of technologies as a solution to overcome barriers relating to access and the individual rights of people with an intellectual disability within a broad framework of Choice, Dignity of Risk and Safeguarding. Whilst the topic will be discussed broadly there will be a particular focus on access to the internet for people with an intellectual disability living in supported (group home) accommodation.
Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas that can be used to by a range of disability support services to develop policies, procedures and strategies. Attendees will also have the opportunity to review the ILC Grant Funding available to support increased access to telecommunications and the internet within the sector.
