Sector Training Activities

Community Inclusion Workshop

This workshop relies on drawing parallels.  You will think about a good life in the context of community, drawing from your uniquely human experience to consider the way connections with others are made and enhanced. This same thinking will then be analysed based on what we know about the people we support. This workshop will encourage you to think about your version of a fulfilling life, and relate that to what others may see as a rich life for themselves. The entire premise of this workshop is about exploring the richness of life and the ways we can support others to share in that richness.

Who should attend?

People in any support capacity for people with a disability, such as family members and support workers.

Topics covered

  • Understanding the theory behind inclusion.  Exploring key concepts that will act as underpinning knowledge in this session, and in your work in the future.
  • Your role in inclusion.  Identifying ways in which you can contribute to supporting the development of community connections in unique and creative ways.
  • The Three Phases of Inclusion – a framework. Appling some logic to the process of inclusion, from disconnected to connected in three well considered steps.
  • Planning for Inclusion. Considering what it takes to create a thoughtful and person centred plan that will uncover the ‘more’ of any person at the centre. Within the deep understanding you hold of this person, you will find a myriad of interesting opportunities that correspond with the uniqueness of their gifts, talents and strengths and that meet the diversity of their needs.
  • Connecting with community. Delving into the depths of community development as a component of your role.  Exploring the most powerful approaches, and the prospects of relationship and partnership development with key people in community.
